I had the $400 Rizoma mirrors and swapped them for bar ends, I dont care how much adjustment is in the mirrors, nothing will compare to bar ends. If you really want to see behind you just go bar ends and you'll never look back :)

Ok so I installed my cheap mirrors today and went for a ride:

Verdict for 15$ they look great. Can you see your reflection in them? yes. Can you see cars behind you? you can somewhat guess. I think a cop car could be 20' behind you and you'd never know. They vibrate pretty much at all RPM. So if you just want mirrors to be legal that fit nicely with the lines of the bike, these are great. If you want mirrors for function there are better options.

Here's a review of the 4 pairs of mirrors I tried. On a scale of 1 to 10:

Stock: Looks (3) Function (6) Price: Free

Rizoma: Looks (10) Function (5.5) Price: Over 200$

Plastic mirrors: Looks (8) Function (1.5) Price: 15$

Aluminum bar end mirrors: Looks (7) Function (11+) Price: 5$

Winner for price and function: Bar end mirrors. Winner for looks: Rizoma hands down.
I'm going back to my bar end mirrors it's by far the safest mirrors you can have, they are barely visible when people look at the bike sideways and are dirt cheap. I prefer sacrifying a few points on looks and keeping my bike in one piece then having nice looking mirrors on a rear ended bike.

haha, excellent post!!! i was going to do the same thing but you pretty well covered it.

i'm waiting for my diamond look kiwav mirrors before i resort to bar ends. if they bomb like the others have i'm going bar end as well even though i don't like the look...but seeing is living.

I just put the bar ends back on...and I must correct the function score...11 out of 10 would be more appropriate :)

I do about a mile to work on the days i can take the bike so not a huge need to change. However I will probably get a set of bar ends for any trip i decide to take. Thanks for the breakdown.

I cannot say enough about my CRG's.
Looks 10+
Function 10+
Quality 10+
Value...priceless ;)

You can't go wrong with CRG's they are very high quality. But I still think it's hard to justify the price difference with the Chinese knock-offs. At 5$ a pair I could change them every year for 30 years before spending as much as on a pair of CRGs. And I rode 20000km with them last year and their still in good condition.

Or maybe for those considering the bar ends, you should at least start with the cheap ones, and then if you like them that much you can spit the extra cash to get the real CRGs...but honestly after having used those on more then one bike, I just don't see what I'd gain by spending more. They are super clear, absolutely no vibration at all, machined aluminum...it checks all the boxes for me.

I don't think I could ever love the looks of them bar end mirrors. Different strokes for different *has a stroke.* SPEEDO! Them Rizomas! I remember reading quite a while ago, most probably in this thread, about your impressions 'n junk. Care to elaborate a bit more on their function again? They look like the ones I'll be grabbing once I get the bike in July.

Side note, me thinks I'll be copying your snakeskin design over the pre-cut version available on that site somewhere. Those side pieces look tonnes better IMO. But then again, your photography skills can probably make anything ugly into a piece of beauty.

...It was a compliment on your skills, not on whether I think the skins look bad or not.

...I don't think they look bad. That's why I want to copy them.

...I'm going now. >_>

I can tell you already (not to be a downer) that the "gold" is going to fade REALLY fast as will the black. I can post a pic of what they will look like after three months.

Mechanically sound, but the paint will fade very quickly if left in any sun.
