Service Departments just seem to all suck

Yes, bring it up with the service manager. Today its a pinched vent hose, tomorrow its a loose axle after a tire change. Problem is that techs rush things to get as many jobs done during the day. This brings in careless installs. When you are working on bike, you have to make it safe for the...

    Thinking about an FJR1300

I think your girlfriend will still hate riding on the FJR1300 as well. Girls like the comfort of a Harley with the big padded rear seat with the armrests where they can fall asleep ;) Don't get me wrong about the FJR. I think its a great bike especially if you do a lot of long distance rides...

Akrapovic exhaust or leovince SBK lv one

Danmoto is the cheap and nasty way to go. I had a black one that turned brown after about a month. I didn't like the way that the db insert was installed at the front of the unit instead of the rear. I ended up installing a Yoshimura R77D. It looked better and sounded real sweet as well.

    How much?

First off dealers will give you SFA for aftermarket accessories. They usually open up their blue book and give you value that is there. I don't know if it works same in US as here but value of trade-in is deducted before taxes so you end up paying less tax at the end. Dealer usually gives...

    Dealer experience

Should not be that much labor. FZ8 is one easy bike to do oil change.

    Dealer experience

Problem is the dealers price labour via a "guide". Supposed to be "x" number of units for a oil change, "x" number of units for a brake job and the list goes on. This is done in the automobile industry as well. What happens is that a lot of mechanics get paid a base salary and commission. So...

    Dealer experience

I'm not familiar with the service policies in the US but here in Canada after I had taken the bike in for its initial 600 mile service, I would receive a Yamaha survey regarding the service. If you check off enough for poor service, dealer would hear from Yamaha.

So Long FZ8, Hello Wicked Cool, High-Value Triple

Fear not, but Canada has triumphed again. I was in at my local Yamaha dealer yesterday and we were discussing the new bike. Was informed that we in Canada will be getting a 2014 model of the FZ-8.

so... the Fz8 is discontinued after this year...

nope. It looks like a new frame to go with it. The article notes that it is an "all-new and more narrow aluminum frame". I for one am looking forward to this bike. 847cc in a triple. Will be one less cylinder and 68cc more. Triples have a real good rep and I hope Yamaha gets it right.

Random Question about Cruisers: What is a comfortable cruising speed?

keyword, "cruiser" its not made to go screaming all day. The comfort zone is in the 50 to 70mph zone. Running up around 70 is pushing, you can really feel the revs. Then take the tires in account, they are not made for cornering. Pushes a bit over 53hp but pulls like your uncles John Deere.

Road Trip - Crossing America on my FZ8

That sounds great. I don't know if it was mentioned earlier and if it was, sorry to be redundant but a nice thing to carry is wet naps. These are really good for wiping the bugs from your visor. As well, we have a chain of coffee shops (they have some in the states as well) Tim Hortons...coffee...

Road Trip - Crossing America on my FZ8

Where will you travelling in Canada? You probably won't be showing the insurance documents unless something happens.

Very weird...have you ever had it happen to you?

One thing, is your time and tripmeter reading intact? I don't know if you can momentarily remove power without resetting these. Check to make sure battery connections are tight ( I think a few others have mentioned that) and check main fuse, #5 on wiring diagram for loose fit. If its tight, I...

    The old exhaust popping!

No, you are right about the popping. It usually happens during deceleration. What happens is that the AIS system injects air at the exhaust port, this combined with the heat helps to burn the unburned gases in the exhaust system. Even with the stock pipe you can hear this but with an open...

So apparently I just bought the worse bike ever made?

Ya, you may be one of the few who actually outgrow the bike( no pun intended). A lot of riders go do a few twisties, go over speed limit by about 20mph but ride in a sane fashion. Most of it lies in the fear of the hit on the pocket book if you get caught having too much of a good time. I'm in...

So apparently I just bought the worse bike ever made?

You will never find the "perfect" bike. The FZ8 (Fazer) was built as an affordable all rounder bike. It wasn't built for the track or off roading. Yamaha realized that there was a market for a bike that fell between the 600cc and 1000cc niche and the "streetfighter" naked look that is popular...

    Aftermarket Parts

Just make sure you don't throw out the ziplock bag, has bolts in it. Should take you 1/2 hour at the most to remove old and install the new one. Just watch removing the two bolts at the top. Make sure your wrench is inserted into the hole properly. These bolts can be quite tight and if it slips...
