What is your epic ride planned for 2013?

Ya but often those climates have their 100+F summers.

That is where we're heading (temp wise) on the Friday, Saturday, Sunday here. It also a good reason to head up into the mountains! Where the max on both days won't be much over 70F...except when we get home on Friday it is 98F (then Sat is 100F and Sun is 102F)

Damn, that is tempting. :D ...but time is the enemy at the moment.

Yikes! I start complaining at 30C. But I am a bit of a baby. Today, the wife and I had a good run on the sleds. It was -13C and with the gear very comfortable really. Santa brought me a GoPro. I'll have to try to get some footage on New Years day.

I plan on hitting up the Three Sisters in Texas. Goes through some of the prettiest parts of the state.

Living about 1 hour from these roads is the reason I'm grateful for living here. That, and the ability to ride year round! I love the three sisters. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to ride any great spots outside of Texas. When you do ride. Some signs that indicate 5-10mph. Take it pretty easy. I've seen people fly over guard rails down mountains trying to take it at 20mph.

Hi Mr SSKY,

Great choice, I did this route twice,, 3 years apart, fantastic cannot recommend the roads highly enough, if you get time the Silverton/durango steam train is worth a ride, can i come to.

ride safe

If you're around sure (uhhh is that cheshire, UK, just saying). I've got a guy on the Fz6 forum who is also interested in the route when I set the dates and route.

Yeah, that's nothing. In Phoenix we routinely hit 110-115 in the middle of the summer. 100-105 we consider a comfortable day here, amost a blessing. The worse is when we get monsoon season and it will rain. The ground is so hot that it vaporizes the water almost immediately and you are in a sauna.

I'm guessing you get 9 other months of the year where the temp is perfect and at least rideable.

Yeah it usually gets hotter here late Jan thru to Feb, where we'll get a week or so of 105-110. Then nights will still be between 80-85. Our last two summers have been quite mild (so only reaching on a few occasions 100F), so we're expecting it to come back this year. Friday's temp has been revised up to 105.

Yup, basically can ride all year round (but the winters can get a little chilly out here too. It isn't usual for it to drop below 30F) depending on how comfortable you want to be! :)

OK, I literally got back from my Snowy Mountains ride 30 mins ago.

We ended up doing this route in the end, split into two days.

From Khancoban to Thredbo is some twisty shit, well shit-load twister than I am use to! The roads can get quite tight too, rock slides and all that stuff. If you catch a a slow car (or a person pulling a caravan/trailer, which ARE NOT allowed on that road for this exact reason) your fucked, until they move over for you.

I have some video from Khancoban to Thredbo, which I filmed on my cheap-arse go-pro clone. i'll drop link in when i upload it.

Oh yeah did I mention it was also freaking hot? :D

Looks good Camo, I wouldn't like the humidity that much as I'm a desert rat now but should be good riding weather.

Lol, I'm a desert rat too, but living in a place with high humidity and I can tell you it sucks balls.

I don't have an epic ride planned this year as I need to travel 4000kms just to get to the first twisty road. Maybe next year or so looking at heading south and doing Tasmania. Hopefully not coming back to here.

went to Tassie for my honeymoon in November mate- awesome place!! Drove most of it in a car and thought that it would be awesome on a bike. some nice roads when you do the driver from hobart to strahan- awesome bends, great scenery and plenty of places for rest stops.

Yeah I got a vid from a mate that went there, I think he was riding into Queenstown, not sure. It was just hairpin, after hairpin, after hairpin. It was bike riders porn.

Yeah queenstown is on the Hobart to strahan drive. Mining country there. Fark all there but windy roads. Hills are a strange copper colour. I think it's copper mines there
