Test rides
Test rides on bikes are hit or miss, some states/countries a test ride is assumed (as it should be). Other places, good luck. Don't forget, there's a HUGE range in insurance costs state to state and the dealer has to have you and the bike covered. I live in RI, there are maybe a half dozen or so big bike dealers, 1 will let you test ride anything BUT a sportbike 600cc or over IF you've had your bike endorsement for a few years....the insurance cost is prohibitive. Then as mentioned, if they don't have a demo model hanging around they're not gonna let you put 12 miles on a new bike, it wouldn't be new anymore. If a test ride isn't an option, maybe you can hold the dealer to a short trade-back period, where he'd give full credit towards a trade.
