Recently, I was searching for front fender replacements for the FZ8 and noticed that the Carbon Fiber replacements would fit the 2002-2008 R1, FZ8, FZ1, etc. I was looking for a front fender to do some custom paint work to match my headlight gold/black headlight/forks etc.....More about that later on.

Anyhow, I came across some interesting information in my search.

Yamaha part numbers explained

Part Number: 1P8-26311-90-00

The first three letters/numbers (1P8 in this case) indicate the model code. The first three digits are the Model Code (every model in the Yamaha Product Line has a unique model number) all parts are given a Model Code of the first model they were used on.

The middle 5 digits are the actual part number (26311). This is the part you actually care about since this will tell you if the part is interchangable for your application or not.

The next two digits (90) are a design code. If this is different, the part may look different, but it is interchangable with the original part.

The last two digits are the color/finish code.

So..........

In the following scenario, the 2011 FZ8 uses the same front fender as the 2006 R1, for example.

2011 Yamaha FZ8
FENDER, FRONT | Use for Color Black Metallic X ( SMX / 0903 )
Part Number: 5PW-21511-01-P6

2006 Yamaha YZF-R1
FENDER, FRONT | Use for Color DEEP PURPLISH BLUE METALLIC C ( DPBMC / 0564 )
Part Number: 5PW-21511-01-P1

Anyways, I thought this was all interesting information to share.
