Third Fz

This is my Third Fz. First was a 1st Gen FZ01
Second was a 2014 Fz09 with every Graves
Motorsports and Yamaha Acc mounted on it.
Third was this 2011 Fz8 that was in my neigh-
bors garage that bought a new 14 Ducati 1200
Monster. The Fz8 looked good and was cheap
to buy after my helmet rep business got soft
forcing the sale of my 2014 SD1290R Super
Duke. So while I am "acting my wage here", I
am having 2/3rds the "fun" at 1/3rd the "price".
Seriously though, I am amazed at how fun
100HP can be coming of a KTM with 180Hp
(depending on who's numbers you believe).
Last July, I traded my "tricked out" Red FZ09
(which I loved the whole 8k miles of riding)
for the Super Duke R (which was my dream
bike). 9600 miles, 5 tires (4 rears, 1 front)
and three services later (2 minor, 1 major),
I sold the Dukester and payed cash for the
FZ08 with 10k miles. The thing I like best
is the 8 isn't Speed Limited! The Fz09 is...
The thing I like least is the rear shock. It
starts out stiff and then goes mush at the
first big bump (put 08 Zx-10 one on Fz09).
Since May 15th, I have put one rear tire on it,
road 4k miles through the Tx Hill Country,
parts of NM and CO, changed the seat foam
from a stock Fz09 seat and covered with '13
8 seat cover, modied a 2013 exhaust off my
buddy's FZ 8 and slipped it on, added Gold
Bar End mirrors and super bike bend bars
and basically rode the hell out of it with no
complaints from the bike. I did change the
spark plugs and do full air box mod while
blocking off the tubes on the air injector to
stop decel popping... Next mods are Corbin
seat and bar risers bought off this forum and
a Gold Tip Coffman slip on for added bling to
go with my gold forks and mirrors. How about
a gold drive chain? Anyone have a brand pref-
erence on it or sprocket change ideas? Also,
after 15-20k miles does anything break or need
to be changed? I have changed to syn oil, done
one oil filter change and cleaned the air filter.
Have I missed anything? This is a great forum
and I appreciate any input. Want to keep this
guy awhile and maybe put 2nd Gen FZ1 motor,
suspension and other goodies on as $ allows.
If around the Houston Tx area, I ride most week
ends in the Sam Houston Nat'l Forest here near
Lake Conroe (Hwys 149 and 3090). See Ya...
