Crunchy First Gear

Has anyone else felt the rather severe crunch when the bike is first put into gear after a cold start up?

It does get better when the bike is warm.

Could it harm the gears in the long term?

I actually started it today from cold with the bike in gear and it seemed better apart from a slight nudge forward.

Is that a long term solution to the problem?

when the bike is cold it snickers in to 1st gear with no noise or clunk like it should. as soon as it warms up the clunking in to 1st gear happens. ive adjusted the clutch cable with no effect. either the clutch plates are dragging or the shifter drum grows with heat & is not grabbing 1st gear cleanly. im guessing about the shifter drum

So yours is the complete opposite to mine! Strange.
