I'm definitely looking at the FZ09 to replace my totaled fz8. I'm a bit concerned about the more upright riding position though as I'm 6'4". I need to go down to the shop and try one out (they have 5 in stock), but I think it's pretty likely that I'd buy one.

+1 This also tends to make you grip tighter, leading to hand numbness. Need to be really, really light on the grips. wiggle your fingers, keep elbows bent and relax the shoulders.

Hmm.. that is an interesting theory. When I looked at the parts once they were removed, there didn't appear to be any binding that might have caused stress on the poorly welded joint, but I suppose that could be possible and the extra grease wouldn't hurt.

Confirmed... Weld failure. I'll upload pics later. Like was mentioned, the weld doesnt go the whole circumference. Just two welds covering about 180 degrees.

Is the picture in my post not showing up for you? It's on the linkage that connects the shifter to the engine. It broke not down by the shifter, but up where it connects to the transmission. There's a 90 degree connector, shrouded in rubber - this fits through a hole, but it has sheared off...

... the linkage between the shifter and the engine breaks :( On my way to work today getting ready to shift from 2nd to 3rd when I put my boot under where the shifter *should* be and it's not there. WTF?? The bolt-like connector broke and the shifter is hanging down. Glad I still have one...

Thanks for the info! I've had zero issues with my bike, although I've only put on 3000 miles. I'll probably skip getting the extended warranty.

Hi all, Now that I've had my FZ8 for nearly a year, it's time to decide whether to purchase Yamaha's Y.E.S. extended warranty. I've seen it on eBay at a far lower price than directly from Yamaha. Has anyone purchased the warranty from eBay? Any issues using it at your local dealer for warranty...

I've added a few strips of retro-reflective tape to increase visibility from the rear at night...
