    Marthy's new ride

I'm definitely looking at the FZ09 to replace my totaled fz8. I'm a bit concerned about the more upright riding position though as I'm 6'4". I need to go down to the shop and try one out (they have 5 in stock), but I think it's pretty likely that I'd buy one.

    My 8, down :(

Thanks all... With the physical therapy sessions I've been going to, my shoulder is healing nicely. I got my check today from insurance. They did a good job with valuing the bike itself, and they reimbursed the full cost of my helmet and visor. They do not cover any gear other than the helmet...

    My 8, down :(

Just got the estimate from the shop... around $5600  and they just sent a copy to my insurance company. The shop & insurance company guarantees repairs to pre-loss condition, and a painted over scratch on the frame isn't pre-loss condition. Another example is the left-rear spool... The...

    My 8, down :(

Last Thursday, I went on my first group ride after having my 8 for a year. I was near the back of the 10 bike group and we had almost finished the fun twisty portion of the ride, until... Coming through an S-curve, the bike directly in front of me took the right curve a little tight and went...

Vote: Why do you my hands go numb?

+1 This also tends to make you grip tighter, leading to hand numbness. Need to be really, really light on the grips. wiggle your fingers, keep elbows bent and relax the shoulders.

Started motovlogging but need a video editor

+1 for Corel VideoStudio. While I haven't used it yet for riding videos, I have produced several family videos and some videos for work. It has a ton of features and for only $69, it's got a lot of bang for the buck. It also goes on sale pretty often.

    It's hard to shift when...

Nope - no excessive force at all. It had been shifting normally until I was ready for another shift and the lever wasn't where it was supposed to be. Took a quick peek down and saw that it was hanging down. Fortunately, I was near the entrance to a parking lot, so I kept the clutch in, got...

    It's hard to shift when...

Hmm.. that is an interesting theory. When I looked at the parts once they were removed, there didn't appear to be any binding that might have caused stress on the poorly welded joint, but I suppose that could be possible and the extra grease wouldn't hurt.

    It's hard to shift when...

Confirmed... Weld failure. I'll upload pics later. Like was mentioned, the weld doesnt go the whole circumference. Just two welds covering about 180 degrees.

    It's hard to shift when...

Is the picture in my post not showing up for you? It's on the linkage that connects the shifter to the engine. It broke not down by the shifter, but up where it connects to the transmission. There's a 90 degree connector, shrouded in rubber - this fits through a hole, but it has sheared off...

    It's hard to shift when...

... the linkage between the shifter and the engine breaks :( On my way to work today getting ready to shift from 2nd to 3rd when I put my boot under where the shifter *should* be and it's not there. WTF?? The bolt-like connector broke and the shifter is hanging down. Glad I still have one...

    Y.E.S. extended warranty

Thanks for the info! I've had zero issues with my bike, although I've only put on 3000 miles. I'll probably skip getting the extended warranty.

    Y.E.S. extended warranty

Hi all, Now that I've had my FZ8 for nearly a year, it's time to decide whether to purchase Yamaha's Y.E.S. extended warranty. I've seen it on eBay at a far lower price than directly from Yamaha. Has anyone purchased the warranty from eBay? Any issues using it at your local dealer for warranty...
