Hello
In Spain we have created a group to request an explanation to Yamaha for the failure in the rotor / Stator of the models fz8, fz6, r1 ... of the years 2006-2014
This piece explodes and the magnets are destroyed. The repair costs about 770-900 pounds and Yamaha is not responsible
Do you have any news that in the UK or the rest of Europe there are comments about this defective part?
It is a danger when riding with the motorcycle.
Thank you

That's funny. I just finished fixing my 2012 FZ8 from this exact scenario this evening. Took me about 6 hours to complete but I took my time and detailed the engine and polished my exhaust since I had to remove it to drop the pan.

It cost me:

410 for the rotor
270 for the stator
10 for the stator cover gasket
10 for the oil pan gasket (had to drop the pan to clear debris sitting at the bottom of the pan)
70 for an oil change

Total cost 780 USD. Located over in Oregon, USA

The new rotor is redesigned so the magnets are no longer glued into it. The entire inside is magnetic (machined surface).

What a pain in the ass. :(
