FZ1 suspension

Wanted to know if anyone here has done this swap by putting on or swapping out the suspension on the FZ8 for the FZ1 suspension and was also wondering about the cost, since i'm on a budget i'm trying to get the best bang for the buck. I read a thread by NoNine4Me and in that thread a member named Cmurder mentioned using the FZ1 shock and forks for a massive improvement, so anyone here use the FZ1 suspension? and can offer any suggestions, thanks

I'm in the middle of this swap. I've swapped out the rear shock for the FZ1 unit, and have the fork cartridges ready to go in once I order new springs. The rear was definitely an improvement since it's the correct spring rate for my size.

How do you deetermine what spring rate you need? and what weight ranges are they usually set for, i'm 240 with gear on but plan on getting down to 200 w/o gear

Rhyno, tried to PM you but you're inbox is full :( anyways - saw your post going about a rear fz1 shock, personally, i've done the satan 666 adaptor + 08' R1 shock. shock cost me like $70, and the adapter was $90 from satan. anyways, i felt like it was ass backwards because who wants a 08' shock on a 12' bike. but we all know that the junk on our bike stock is HORRIBLE and you could put a stick with a rubber band on it and get better rebound. But the R1 shock is fully adjustable - and while you have it out - you can get the spring powdercoated for pretty cheap to, easy accessory. thats my two cents on the matter. If the FZ1 shock is a straight swap - do it. because mine took the better part of 4 hours, lifting the rear end in the air (by a hoist) and cutting parts that i probably didnt know the name of in the first place. But it turned out great and is pretty sweet.
have a good day man - and as always - ride safe.

Ok, thanks for the feedback, about the FZ1 rear shock and spring is it the whole unit i.e. shock and spring or just the spring, also when swapping out the front fork internals from an FZ8 for FZ1 internals will you still be able to adjust them i.e. making the suspension fully adjustable?

does the fz1 have more adjustability regarding suspension compared the FZ8 considering both would be 2013 models, would ordering Race Tech suspension for an FZ1 to put in a FZ8 even work, would i get the full benefits of a fully adjustable front and back suspension. Or if i swap out the FZ8 fork internals and rear shock and spring for a matching year FZ1 would they have the FZ1 dials on top of the forks?

Lol, figuring this out is damn near making my head spin, wouldn't be easier just to take the fork internals and fork top along with the shock and spring from an equal year FZ1 and justt have them installed? I mean the stock wet weight of the FZ1 is 487 lbs compared to the 467 wet weight of a stock FZ8, so i'm sure the stock FZ1 suspension has to be a huge improvement over the FZ8, considering the FZ1 suspension has to carry that extra weight.

Yes, thank you, finally someone understands my jibberish lol, no just gotta figure out how much it cost, on the rear i want a whole FZI rear unit, that would include shock and spring.

I seen some guys will go on the FZ1 forums and buy from members who upgrade their stuff.
Honestly, at $500 + for some used stock stuff, I personally would just upgrade the stock forks to RaceTech parts. That's just me

I would definitely go with Race Tech, but when i called them today they told me that they were not sure if their springs and valves could be used on 2013 FZ8 since it has adjustable suspension.

FWIW I was able to snag a rear FZ1 unit for ~$30 off ebay, and the fork inserts and caps for ~$150 off an FZ1 forum.

Sweet, now regarding installation, did you do it yourself, take it to dealership for them to install, or did you have to take it to a specialist, like a performance shop?

To Rhyno54:

If you are interested, I just performed some R1 surgery on my brand new (3 miles) 2014 FZ1.

I have the full rear shock assembly and front end ready to go on fleaBay.

BTW: You should clear your mailbox.
