Cruising rpm in city?

Hey members, I was riding through the city and caught the wave of green lights. I began to wonder what rpm others tend to cruise at when riding at 35-40 mph?

It really depends for me. My town isn't exactly big, but normally I try to keep between 3-4K rpm, maybe a little higher, but for cruising and overtaking, the bike still has more than enough grunt to make it work.

yeah they're right. It all depends on where you're cruising. Between stoplights in town, I just go whatever'll get me there when the light turns green, 3 to 4k. If it's gonna be a long time, I slow down way back, and split lanes to the front, hopefully getting there at the right time.
However, on the high speed part of my frequent commutes, I go 6k to 7k for a few miles- (and that is definitely the best part) so it all depends.

@bauers007 I'm in Whittier and am usually riding through uptown, south mpls area. Do you ever go to first Thursday at donolos pizza?

I find that I'm usually is 3rd at about 3.2k - 4.
