Anyone else here participate in the 9/11 Memorial Midnight Ride in NYC last night? I would estimate over 2000 bikes rode.

We started at 2300EDT from the Harley dealership on Northern Blvd in Astoria, Queens. Took the Queensboro Bridge and went down 2nd Ave to 42nd St. Took that over to 12th Ave and the West Side Highway.

Once we got down to the memorial, everyone found parking in about 2-3 square blocks. Someone in the building my group and I parked in front of (along with dozens of other bikes) apparently didn't like the fact that we existed. He started throwing buckets of water down on us and our bikes. He then moved to tomatoes, and then throw a box worth of thumb tacks down. Some people...

It was a wild ride overall. Lots of squids/asshats doing burnouts and whatnot, but overall it was actually pretty well mannered. Bikes rode ahead to stop traffic, and the police were very uninvolved. Someone handed out masking tape so we could tape over our license plates (to avoid red light camera tickets).

I recorded the whole thing (as did my girlfriend), so once I'm done going through the 2+ hours of footage, I'll edit together a highlights reel.

thats a lot of bikes.

If the guy started throwing stuff at my bike, I would've called the cops on him for vandalism

I stay away from large groups (10+) unless I know all the riders. Large groups here tend to be squids hotdoggin the neighborhood streets...

I think I would tend to avoid any group ride that involves taping over of license plates. If you need to block intersections so that the whole group can get through, you should probably have a police escort.

But that's just me. Sounds like it was a good ride, good turnout, good fun.

I think it was actually police escorted (or at least "sanctioned"). And yeah, I'm not usually one for huge rides like this, but it was a spur of the moment thing and sounded like (and was) fun.

As long as you had fun, and hopefully kept in mind the reason for the ride, all's well that ends well [emoji106]
