    Hard shift to first

Sometimes it feels as if my entire box is about to drop onto the floor when I initially put her into 1st. It's obviously worse when cold and I notice that there is quite a bit of clutch drag too. I feel this if the bike is cold and rolling say at 3-5mph then if I put it back into first there...

Removed fuel pump strainer, now bike won't start!

Well done on diagnosing the problem. Any chance you could show us how to access the fuel filter/strainer as you describe 'inside the tank'? Just for future ref. Thanks.

    Frame Lids

Hi Guys Does anyone know please what is behind the two frame lids? One on either side and I believe on both the FZ8 and FZ8SA ? I'm trying to see if I can access the Rear ABS Sensor Coupler without removing fairings, lifting tank and possibly even having to remove the air filer case. The w/s...

OBD 2 device on the FZ8?

This is certainly something we should all be interested in to make fault diagnosis easier. The first question I would have is how easy is it to access the ECU and plug in a diagnostic tester?

    ECU flash

I thought the idea of installing PC was that it by-passed the ECU in terms of mapping. The ECU is redundant in terms of the engine management.

Nice wheels there David. Welcome to the forum. A fellow European? Are there many FZ8 riders in Romania?

    Removing front wheel

If your bike has ABS it may well be worth looking at this: http://www.779cc.org/forum/fz8-general-discussion/5416-front-wheel-removal.html I think next time I do this I'll fit a centre stand. Must be a lot easier than fiddling about with paddock stands. I should have done this from day 1.

    Way cool review of FZ8!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Wp3zYAAd1c Several people report clocking in excess of 150mph on youtube. 250kph = 155mph. Allow for some speedo error and I reckon that the FZ8 is close to a 150mph machine. Edit to add: That puts the FZ8 in perspective in terms of value for money. Naked...

Welcome to the forum. Check out this and be aware of it (Rear suspension arm failures). http://www.779cc.org/forum/fz8-general-discussion/3517-*rear-suspension-arm-failures*-please-read.html Also gear levers have been known to shear. Apart from that the rest can chalked up to normal failures...

    Way cool review of FZ8!

There is a guy on youtube thrashing an FZ8 and he gets 250kph. The Tracer MT-09 does around 220kph according to owners. The Tracer will however out accelerate the FZ8.

    Front Wheel Removal

All back to normal now. The ABS sensor does appear to be working so they cannot be that sensitive to abuse. Trickiest thing was putting the brake pads back in. When you try and feed the pad retaining pin through the spring cover the pads drop further into the caliper! Putting your fingers at...

    Front Wheel Removal

Hi Everyone After 9000 miles time for front tyre change. I purchased the cheapest front paddock stand I could find fro a dealer. I already had a rear stand that works pretty well since I service my chain fairly regularly. The brake pads came out with relatively little difficulty although one...

    Front Paddock or Headstock Stand

I just wondered what people recommend for removal of the front wheel? I haven't purchased a stand yet. I only have a rear stand. Should I buy one that locates under the headstock or under the front forks? I imagine it would need to locate under the front forks but I just wanted to be sure...

HOW TO: Tips on replacing your Spark Plugs

It is tricky. Rotate them first a few turns either direction. If still they don't pop up, get a small piece of wood and gently lever between the block and connector. Be careful not to crack the connector plastic though! It's a tricky operation no doubt about it. Only just enough room to...

What do you plan to own next?

I love my FZ8S so unless I come into some unexpected cash I'll keep her. If I were to change, my final thoughts for now are as follows: The Tuono looks beautiful. Sounds brilliant, is fast at 175 BHP, and so stylish I almost dream about owning one. The problems are cost, hot running, poor...

What do you plan to own next?

Agreed. When take the Fazer on a 150 -200 mile ride my knees really hurt. I have the taller screen and it works well. I also agree the Fazer has ample power in it's stock form. Well the good news is that there seems to be little else out there at the moment for the money and so my bank...

What do you plan to own next?

I just checked the UK line up and the FJ-09 is not offered. The MT-09 seems highly rated in the youtube reviews and is touted as the most exciting bike to emerge from the Yamaha designers for years. It has one flaw according to test riders: a snatchy throttle. I had the same thing on my 2009...

What do you plan to own next?

Yes it's a tricky one. Never has there been so much choice, yet with most modern machines I see drawbacks. The MT-09 seems good value, and boasts an extra few horses compared to the FZ8, but is it such a good all rounder? The VFR800 seems a little too sedate to me, It should have been...

What do you plan to own next?

With the Fazer family now discontinued from the Yamaha UK line up (and presumably US too), I wondered what kind of bike people may be thinking of owning next? How good for example is the new MT-09? The three cylinder 900cc crossover type concept differs from the classic Fazer all rounder and...
