The forks could have had a defect that caused the seal to wear. I've heard that inspecting the forks is recommended when replacing seals; ensure the surface is clean/smooth. After 2 weeks Yamaha likely thought there was something that caused premature failure.
I have them on order for my bike; looking forward to their arrival (any day now). Getting them from the dealer matched to the bike - blue color. I was considering adding some clear protective tape to the leading edge for rocks, etc. Do you think that will help?

The Canadian version doesn't have these straps under the seat. I read in an online owners manual that the bike had them, however when I got mine there were none on the bike and no reference in the printed owners manual (that came with the bike).
