what helmet are you wearing? why? PRO's/CON's?

I have worn a SHOEI RF since the 800's. I currently own a RF1000 and am looking to upgrade to an RF1100 here in the next few months probably but wanted to know everyones opinions on their helmets. I respect the SNELL and DOT ratings, but it always comes down to gadgets, fit, and comfort.

I like the reviews from this site - pretty accurate information.

Motorcycle Helmets - webBikeWorld

the RF-1000 fits my average/slightly oval/round head and had decent ventilation for my weekend rides up in Virginia... now that I'm in Texas, the ventilation is definitely coming into play. I read about how awesome the ventilation on the BELL STAR is, but I'm definitely going to have to try it on and think it fits awesome, then have someone else say its awesome, and convince my wife its awesome before I shell out $100-$150 more for it than I would the RF-1100... and as nice as those graphics are, I'd probably skip them all but the gold and green one and go with a solid.

I recently went from an RF100 to an RF1100. If you're noise-sensitive, especially wind noise, you might have second thoughts on the 'upgrade'. While I don't hear the whistle that reviewers have complained about (but then, I'm very old and probably don't hear anything in that frequency range anyway) it does seem to me that the FR1100 is a noisier helmet. Not in the sense of whistles or squeaks or anything that sounds like air leak noise, but just wind noise. I've worn the two back to back just to see if my perceptions were off, and for me, the RF1100 is noisier.

Same fit, same quality, same comfy liner, so if wind noise doesn't bother you, you'll probably love it.

ok fit... how about noise? ventilation? are the shields a pain in the neck to swap out?

the icon's shield is exactly the same as the shoei, very simple to swap, can be done in about 10 seconds max.

the ventilation on the icon is far superior to my shoei, and the wind noise is less on the icon as well.

if you look at my pics closely you can see that the 'viewing area' of the icon is greater than the shoei. it's VERY noticeable from inside looking out. the built in breathguard on the icon is rigid and works better than the official shoei addon guard ever did.

I think the ventilation on the RF1100 is significantly better. Much better flow (and that matters a ton here in Baja Georgia). Shield change is easy and tool free, and the seal around the shield is much better. Some of the noise can come from that seal, and the fit of the shield can be adjusted to take out any misalignment. It's a real nice helmet and comparatively quiet (much quieter than my HJC carbon fiber one, for sure), it's just not as quiet as my RF1000.

Shoei Qwest after moving from Shoei Z-One. Noise level is well down and I enjoy nice wind blast coming from under visor vents. Visor itself is much bigger than in Z-One or my wife's Shoei Raid 2 and gives a much wider field of vision, helps with over shoulder checks

I have an arai rx-q. I love it super light very comfortable and great viewing. Can't really comment of air flow as this is my first full face helmet and have nothing to compare it to.

I've got an RF1100. I really like it. Its the only helmet I've ever had so I can't compare it to anything else.

It does seem a little noisy sometimes but it vents well and is very light and comfortable.

Shoei Quest... because they're the quietest helmet Shoei makes and it's a great looking helmet.

I heard it whistles sometimes? how about the ventilation? those back vents don't look like much... top vent looks ok though....

Yeah Qwest does whisle sometimes but it does bother me it only happens when I hit strong side winds. Ventilation is awsome, sometimes I need to close main vent as it gets too cold and its mid summer here in the UK

[lang=es]hola a todos

I've also heard some great reviews about the BELL STAR and the new RS-1 helmet for their ventilation (which I need here in TX) and fit...

anyone know anyone thats riding with a BELL helmet? I've driven around to visit a few of the local "dealerships" and guess what? most of them don't carry bell but can order it... rat finks... I guess Bell is a pain in the ass to work with.

BELL STAR ---------------------------------------------------------------- BELL RS-1
$550-650ish??........................................................................................$350-400ish???

My local dealership had a whole slew of Bells I tried on before eventually choosing the Shoei RF-1100. Not like that helps you much, though. IMO, the Shoei was definitely more comfortable than the Bell. The Shoei seemed just as snug overall but the inside padding didn't squish my face the way the Bell did(which was a bit uncomfortable). Of course every helmet is going to fit everyone differently, just figured I'd put my $0.02 out there.
