I did a run from Ottawa to Kingston and back. I don't find the seat that uncomfortable. Twas the heat that was the killer today. Water temp on hiway was hitting around 80c - 82c...heat from engine was blowing in around my legs, still not as hot as R1 with pipes under your ass. Ya, I agree that it likes gobbling hills and also likes the twisteez. Actually gets good gas mileage too. So did a bit over 400k today...thanks to Timmies for their frozen lemonade:)

I installed a set of SW-MOTECH 0.8" risers. I haven't taken it for a ride yet as it was pouring today. It only took me about 20 minutes to complete. Just sitting on the bike it feels better.

Well, I did re-install the stock can. Wanted to see the difference between the stock and my Danmoto can and then see the difference when I get my Yoshi next week. Funny thing is the only difference I noticed was the sound, performance was about the same.

Not being very mechanically inclined...how hard were these to install? Do you have to mess with removing handlebar and all the cables? Just wondering. Looks real nice and I would like to do something like this. Also...how much $?

All you need to do is remove the bolts and top clamps from the handlebars. Then move the handlebars forward and up. Slide the 0.8" risers into place then place the handlebars back into position and put the top clamps on and slightly tighten the bolts. Move the handlebars to where you want them and fully tighten the bolts. Done.

I didn't have to change anything else except readjust my mirrors. Also you may want to lay a towel over your take so you don't bang it up by accident.

I bought the risers from twistedthrottle.com for $57.00. The 0.8" risers are about as high as I would go. If you go higher you would probably need to change cable lengths and brake line.

Took the 8 for a good rip over Apex MTN and back on the East side of Skaha Lake, damn hot here lately, nice to have the wind in your face to cool down. My new seat will be here Monday, hope it is more comfy than the stock one:)

First oil and filter change (reached the magical 1000km mark sometime during the week)

Also installed the new exhaust hanger and removed the pillion foot pegs on the other side.

I still need to get the lower farings, fender eliminator & LED indicators installed.THEN THAT IS IT! ...for a while at least.

Went up to Mount Mee near Brisbane for a few hours.
Got in the way of some bike racers and unfortunately I may have got in their way (pulled over when I could). Bike feels bouncy as the roads are not the best. I now understand what all the fuss is about the suspension on the FZ8.

Since I only have 1K on the bike I kept the revs below 8K RPM, and it really comes alive after 6K.

Got pulled up by an FZ1 and he complemented how good the Graves slip on sounded on my FZ8. He was running Yoshy R-77. He couldn't belive I got the Graves for under $400, as he paid almost $800 for his Yoshi here in Australia.

I Noticed that after going full synthetic and using 91 octane (instead of 95), the bike seems to run a little cooler and fuel usage has improved.

I am now looking at bar raisers and silicone handles as the vibration numbs my hands after 45minutes of riding.

Next week I am installing my new Power Commander V and hoping it was worth the $300 price.

Did a 300km ride through what used to be an awesome road yesterday. Turns out that the road for the most part is rutted, pot holed and just outright terrible if you're on board an FZ8. I was riding with several other seasoned riders on varying types of super sports, nakeds and sport tourers... All of which handled the conditions better than my FZ8 with r1 front forks and FZ1 rear. I had several "moments" during the day and swapped bikes with a few guys who agreed the ride was awesome on the smooth stuff but dangerous when the road surface got wild. Tried tweaking the setup but couldn't find a happy place.
I'm seriously considering trading the bike in.... If I can't push a little on my local twisty's, there seems to be no logical reason to spend more money trying to fix the problem.
Admitidly I'm no super skilled rider and that may be part of my problem but the bike didn't seem up to the task yesterday at all, regardless of who was on it.

You couldn't "push a little"? Or does push a little mean take a tight corner at 80+?

You should still take rider skill into consideration. Go to a track and get passed by a supermotard on the outside corner. That will reaffirm that theory.

So far I find mine doing everything my R6 could. Takes tight turns no problem and punches way sooner too.

You should definitely trade the bike in. It's just not for you. ;)

I love the Internet.
Yeah I should probably get to a track and be shown up by some girl on a scooter and I most likely will trade the bike in the near future as its obviously not for me.
The corner speed isn't the issue, it's stability.

Camo, i understand your concerns. When i rode over Apex Mtn yesterday, the rode was beaten up from a bad winter, the 8 was not happy at all when the road is rough and hard cornering is involved. The 8 is your average standard economy bike and is great for commuting and weekend bike camping. I will be keeping it for just those situations. My new bike should arrive this week sometime(2012 Black Vmax). Next spring i will get a 3rd bike , most likely the yamaha FJR1300 or the Yamaha Super Tenere, for some off road fun. I love Yamaha and will be collecting several of them for my stable. Even though the 8 doesn't have the best suspension, in the black it still looks Bad A$$ and gets a lot of attention at the local bike stops( donut shops).
